Gaden is one of the three main Buddhist mo- nastic universities of Tibet. It was founded by Je Tsongkhapa Lobsang Dakpa in 1409. Gaden Monastery has two parts: Gaden Jang- tse and Gaden Shartse. Within Gaden Jang- tse, there are twelve houses (khangtsen) and Tsawa Khangtsen is one of these-it is one of the largest khangtsens, serving the Himalayan regions of Tibet, Arunachal Pradesh (India), Bhutan, Ladakh and Nepal.

When Tibet was free, Tsawa Khangtsen sheltered more than 800 monks. After 1959 only 10 monks from Tsawa house escaped to India. Today, in exile, Tsawa Khangtsen houses more than 400 monks, yet their prayer hall can only accommodate 200. During gatherings more than half of our monks have to remain outside.

Due to this overcrowding it has become crucially urgent that an expanded prayer hall be built. Tsawa House is sending seven monks to North America who will share their vast and highly developed spiritual lineage of Tibetan Buddhism with Western audiences. In the process we hope to raise funds to complete our new prayer hall.

This tour is headed by one of the most well- known Tibetan physicians, Geshe Dr. Lobsang Tenzin. For more details about the tour please visit our website www.dianagorbea.com or contact the AZ Tour Coordinator, Diana Gorbea, at 480-212-6747.

The monks will be available to perform blessings, ritual ceremonies and special prayers at private homes, offices or places of business. Personal requests of invitation to the monks for services are welcomed and encouraged. Medical check-ups from Dr. Tenzin will also be available.
