Desert Landscaping is NOT just prickly cacti and gravel!  SuperstitionFarm.com is creating a xeriscape garden, come learn and help it take root!

The East Maricopa Natural Resource Conservation District (EM-NRCD) is hosting this fun and educational event to showcase the beauty and need for desert landscaping and native plants.  SuperstitionFarm.com is excited about this partnership!  Come learn about your local NRCD and how they can help you at your own home!

SEE examples of lush, colorful and low water use plants that one can plant at their own homes.  There are many misconceptions of what a natural desert landscape should look like.  Many people believe it is sparse and ugly, this is so far from the truth!  See the possibilities.

HEAR from experts in the field.  East Maricopa National Resource Conservation District is partnering up with Superstition Farm to get the word out about native plants and introduce the field office to all the new people who are making the East Valley their home.  Superstition Farm has enlisted a stellar group of individuals representing the best horticulture groups in the state to design its own Desert Open Space Garden.  Have a question about horticulture?  This is the place to get it answered, or just listen in on the presentations throughout the day.  Hear the truth about Xeriscape!

TASTE the desert! “Four Directions Permaculture” will show how edible the desert can be!  Where one sees tough exteriors and prickles,  Don Titmus from Four Directions Permaculture sees delicacies and sustenance.  “People and animals have been living in the desert since time immortal,” says Don.  “As our culture becomes more urban, we are losing the tools and concepts of living with the desert.  There are some great delicacies out there if you know where and when to look.”  Learn by taste!

SMELL the aromas of local foods and treats in our Expo!  Along with informative booths about horticulture, smell the tasty treats our friends will bring to the farm.  From local Farmers Market favorites to prepared foods, your nose is in for a treat!  Smell something different on the farm!

TOUCH desert flora and plant them on the farm!  Get your hands a little dirty and get closer to nature.  As part of the desert workshop, learn proper planting techniques and tips with the experts as we actually plant part of the new garden!  Touch the future of SuperstitionFarm.com!

Hawes Rd in Mesa for the past 28 years, the farm is now surrounded by the expanding suburbs.  The Stechnij family wishes to be good neighbors by opening up the farm to everyone who enjoys open space, family events, agriculture, and fun.

The East Maricopa Natural Resource Conservation District (EM-NRCD) helps direct technical and financial assistance from the US Natural Resource Conservation Service (NRCS) to owners of private property. Landowners become cooperators of the NRCD in order to qualify for NRCS staff support and technical assistance in improving their land, water and soil.  The District is guided by an elected board of elected supervisors and is considered a sub-division of state government.  Landowners elect from their peers district board members who prioritize and direct federal assistance provided within the district boundaries. It provides local people with a voice in the process.
